Unroll why a 3D Cad cannot help you

Some 3d Cad system have a lot of function for sheet metal.

 

In mass opinion a 3d CAD system is powerful, but not easy to use.

 

In our opinion the real situation is opposite; though using a 3d cad system needs some days (or some weeks) to learn when you have mastered it the functions are often very easy to use; the problem is quite different : is very hard to say to the CAD system your needs when unrolling the pieces.

 

This is especially true in seams management of pieces.

 

The parametric pieces of CutExpert consist in a lot of simple programs in which :

 

•the exact 3d geometry of the piece is build depending on the set of parameters (this is very similar to a 3d Cad, with a Cad is quite easy to define the geometry of the surfaces depending on parameters

 

•the rules for unroll the piece are stated on a per piece basis; each piece have different rules that can be dependent also by parameter (for example with a set of parameters the unroll need to be quite different.

 

These kind of needs cannot be easily solved with a CAD 3d since require writing programming code.
